It’s that time of year, the time that every parent of young kids dreads - Daylight Saving Time!
Get ready for the grogginess and the darker mornings and the associated struggle for parents and kids alike.
To help you prepare, we’ve got a few tips that have worked for us:
Stick to the Current Routine
Stick to wake up and snack time and everything else. Don’t overadjust, just keep it going. And keep the nighttime routine the same as well. Routine helps kids know it’s time for bed. So if bath time, stories and songs are on your nightly agenda - don’t change it now!
Try Bright Lights in the Morning
Lights can always help wake us up, so try dimmer lights or just natural lights to help your kids wake up in the morning when it’s still dark outside. Light in the morning will help their internal clocks reprogram and ease the wakeup process overall.
Get Enough Sleep
The age-old tale of getting sleep. It may be easier said than done, but you’ll feel better if you sleep more as well.
Be Sympathetic
There might be more tantrums as your kids adjust, so just be a little more patient. Give a little more and know that they may need a little more.
Overall, as much as your kid’s sleep schedule will be your focus this weekend (and probably for the next week), don’t forget to also take care of yourself. We could all use a little more rest and a little adjustment as we Spring Forward.
